Getting out of a reading slump

Hello readers, long time no see. Piled under exam stress, it is with utmost displeasure that I would like to announce how I have not read a book since January. It makes me sad even to type this because 2023 started with a bang! Read 6 books in the first month only to not look at another for the following two. However, I am very enthusiastic about finishing a book now (gonna ignore the fact that I have a biology exam in less than 12 hours).

Don't get me wrong, it is not that I did not try. Picked up many books but nothing seemed to hit the mark. Hence why I am now going to document my attempt to end this slump so that I have some motivation to keep going forward.

ATTEMPT NUMBER 1:

BOOK LOVERS BY EMILY HENRY

(Sat, 25th March 2023 - 12:39 am): Despite my contempt for romance books, Emily Henry is a romance author I desperately want to try. On a rainy, cold night, as I snuggle against my blanket, ignoring the pile of past papers I should be practicing for my exam in the morning, I am picking up Book Lovers. Let's begin!

(Mon, 27th March 2023 - 7:20 pm): Officially 100 pages in, and I am thoroughly enjoying it. Firstly, it is not like other romance books ;) One of the things I hate the most about romance books is the description of the main characters. The author feels the need to mention that the guy is a brooding tall blue-eyed hunk of a man 700 times. Book Lovers broke that stereotype by first making the guy amber-eyed instead of blue (I know, shocking!) and then making the girl five freaking eleven. I am in awe. My only critique is how I would've loved to have Lastra's pov. The banter, the setting, the plot, the characters - everything is well done so far.

(Thu, 30th March 2023 - 2:35 pm): Two hundred pages down! This book has me swooning, giggling, and getting all heart-eyed for Charlie and Nora. I love them so much. Their chemistry is unmatched. I genuinely cannot wait to pick up other Emily Henry books soon.

Is there anything better than iced coffee and a bookstore on a sunny day? I mean, aside from hot coffee and a bookstore on a rainy day.

(Fri, 31st March - 1:26 am): I finished it! I have honestly not felt this good in a while. Nothing feels better than laying in your bed all day, reading a book while it rains outside. I am grateful for getting to have a day like this before the study grind starts again. A little bit about the book, it was spectacular. This book has not only ended my reading slump because now I feel like picking up a new book asap, but it has also put an end to my hatred towards the entire romance genre. If it was up to me I would've placed an order for multiple more rom-com novels but sadly my mom said no :( Overall a great reading experience. Do give it a read if you're looking for something light-hearted and fun.

The attempt to end this reading slump was a success. I am itching to pick up a new book right now, and that's a feeling I have not felt in a while.

I would love to say that I'd like to be more regular from now on, but the truth is I know this blog isn't gonna get to see much of me till summer break. But who knows? Miracles happen, hence why you should watch out for new posts soon and subscribe if you haven't already!
