Anne of Green Gables

Author: LM Montgomery

Rating: 5/5 stars

Synopsis: It tells the tale of a red-headed orphan girl named Anne Shirley who lives on Prince Edward Island. She gets adopted by Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert, an elderly brother and sister duo who live on a farm called Green Gables. Anne brings unexpected adventure into their lives with her curiosity and imagination.

Oh Anne! I've simply fallen in love with you. Your imagination has left me in awe.

She had been reading, but her book slipped to the floor and now she was dreaming...

I first fell in love with Anne when I watched the Netflix series, Anne With an E, and although the book was significantly different, I loved it just as much... maybe even more than the show.

Anne is no doubt different from other girls her age, but I love how she acknowledges it and is proud of who she is, and I admire how she doesn't try to change the way she is despite knowing she is different.

There's such a lot of different Annes in me. I sometimes think that is why I'm such a troublesome person. If I was just the one Anne it would be ever so much more comfortable, but then it wouldn't be half so interesting.

After such a difficult year, reading this book felt like a dose of energy I never knew I needed. Anne's character is simply amazing. If I had half of the imagination Anne possesses, I'd never have the need for friends.

I loved all the characters. I wish to have a friend as loyal and sincere as Diana. Always by Anne's side, Diana is so down to Earth, despite being known for her beauty and belonging to one of the richest families of Avonlea. I wish she actually went to Queens in the book like she did in the tv show.

True friends are always together in spirit.

As much as I like Marilla, I really do wish she were more affectionate and verbal towards her love for Anne.

Mathew is my favourite! I cried actual tears when he died, because I did not see that coming.

Gilbert's character on the show was entirely different from the book, and I honestly love both of them equally. This is the only time I actually enjoyed reading the enemies to lovers trope...

This book is so different from all the other classics I have read. It's a light hearted and fun read, and I recommend you read it if you're looking for a chill book to enjoy these winter evenings.

I cannot wait to read the next book of this series! I am looking forward to seeing Anne grow!

Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we know all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?

The show, Anne With an E is also worth a watch! It is not the same as the book, but it discusses so many important themes - feminism, racism, education and human rights - to name a few!
