Can BookTok be Trusted?

TikTok has easily become one of the most consumed form of media, with its BookTok community taking over the bookish world. Over the last few months, I read a few books most suggested by this community, and here are my thoughts:

The Song of Achilles

Those of you on TikTok promised me that I'd cry reading this book, but I sadly didn't. Now, that's not because it isn't a sad book, it truly is heart wrenching towards the end. Beautifully written, it is a good book. However, it was nothing extraordinary like people suggest. For some, it can even be hard to get into because of the complicated way in which it's written. All in all, it is definitely worth a try if you're into Greek mythology and are familiar with the concepts, otherwise it can be a little frustrating to get into.

A Court of Thorns and Roses

I have a complicated relationship with this series. The first book was good, a little slow but still got a solid four stars from me. The second book blew me away (I mean Rhysand did) and got a five star rating. The third book was so boring I had to dnf (did not finish - grammatically incorrect I know) it. I believe that there's many better books and series out there that you can read instead of this one.

The Cruel Prince

If it's faerie books you want to read, here is a good one. This series literally owns my heart and my soul. Once again, the first book can be a little slow to get into, but the second and the third book are amazing! Great plot, amazing romance, and a strong female main character - this book series has it all. I'm still kinda sad that it isn't longer. I'm not ready to part with Cardan and Jude yet. But at the same time, the ending of The Queen of Nothing (third book) is one of the best things i've ever read - although the third book did seem a bit rushed. Definitely check this series out.

Shatter Me

I recently binge-read the entire three books of the Shatter Me series, and although the first two books were pretty mediocre, the third book, Ignite Me, made it so worth it. Full of plot, romance, suspense and adventure, this series is perfect for those into any of the following: fantasy, romance or dystopian.

It Ends With Us

You can't be a part of the book community if you haven't heard of Colleen Hoover. It Ends With Us is one of the three books i've read of hers, and it's definitely my favourite of the three. The plot twist will have you gasping and looking around all confused - and you won't be able to part with the book until the very last page.

November 9

This has to be Colleen Hoover's most well-loved book, and I am personally in shock as to why. I can't see why people are so blind to how toxic Ben (the main guy character/love interest) in the book is. Even though the book still has the CoHo charm, with it's big dramatic plot twist and fast paced writing, I just can't get past how problematic Ben really is...Read the book to see what I'm talking about (buy now):

The Inheritance Games

This was a fun, fast paced mystery novel, with many aspects to it. Once again, like Shatter Me, it would serve to a wide range of audience: contemporary, mystery, thriller and romance readers would all love this book. I definitely recommend it to anyone looking to get into any of the above mentioned genres, or reading in general. It is however, a teeny tiny bit overhyped. It was a solid book, but nothing groundbreaking.

The Hating Game

When I first read it, I thought I enjoyed it. But the more I think about it, the more I loathe it. And it's honestly not the books fault, it's just that I hate romance books alone. Romance in a fantasy? Yes please. But a plain boring romance book, with its only plot being the fact that two grown adults who are clearly in love but are just in denial about it, and it takes them 400 pages to realise it? NO PLEASE. But if you're a romance reader (no judgement here) this is the book for you! Banter, angst, longing, enemies to lovers - its got it all!

ANYWAY, that's all for today. Hope you enjoyed <3
